GayTV Recap: Days of Our Lives (Episodes 54x55-61)
The drama revolving around Days of Our Lives' gay trio of Will, Sonny and Leo continued in recent weeks. Episode 54x55 began with Will (played by Chandler Massey) saying goodbye to his father Lucas, as he prepared to leave Salem for Europe to provide support for his other child, Allie. Meanwhile, Will's love Sonny (played by Freddie Smith) continued to deal with his unwanted house guest and blackmailer Leo (played by Greg Rikaart). Leo pressured Sonny to agree to marry him, or risk going to prison along with Will for his attempted murder.
Sonny wondered why Leo was so adamant about marrying him when he knows that Sonny loves Will, not him. Leo vowed to Sonny that he would regain his favor and attention once they got past their negative history. Sonny prepared to answer Leo's marriage proposition when Will showed up, answering for him, with a resounding no. Will maintained his belief that no one would buy Leo's story of attempted murder, knowing that his fall was just an accident. Leo assured them both that he could be very convincing.
Sensing that Leo wasn't going to give up his plot to get to Sonny's money, Will called Leo's bluff, saying that he could stop him by going to the police and telling them that he was the one that tried to kill Leo. Sonny told Will that he would never let him take the fall for something that Sonny did. This wasn't Will's fault. Leo shot down the gesture, claiming that Sonny would still be an accessory and they would both still go to prison. He put on the pressure, telling them that the only way to silence him would be Sonny marrying him.
Sonny tried again to pay Leo off, wondering how much it would cost him, but Leo refused to take any payments that didn't come with a wedding ring. Feeling the walls closing in on him, Sonny prepared to accept the marriage proposal. Will said that Sonny couldn't do this, after all they have been through, finding their way back to each other. Unwilling to hurt his family, or sacrifice Will's freedom, Sonny agreed to marry Leo, who happily announced they would be wasting no time getting down the aisle. This left Will furious.
Episode 54x56 found Will texting Sonny, begging him not to go through with the wedding. Sonny reminded him that it was only a temporary solution to keep Leo quiet, until Sonny could figure out how to neutralize him. This didn't leave Will or Sonny feeling much better about their predicament.
Leo went to the courthouse, looking to secure Salem's mayor Abe Carver to handle the ceremony, while Sonny explained his emergency wedding plans to his shocked mother Adrienne. She demanded to know why Sonny would ever think of marrying the conniving Leo after everything he did to him before. Sonny revealed that he was being blackmailed. At the hospital, Will found his grandmother Marlena, telling her about Sonny's plan to marry Leo. He revealed to her that Leo had the power to send him and Sonny to prison, surprising her.
Back at the courthouse, Leo introduced himself to Abe and his nosy secretary Sheila and when he revealed that the man he was intending to marry was Sonny Kiriakis, it drew Abe's instant curiosity, knowing of Sonny's relationship with Will. When he realized Leo was the man that previously accused Sonny of sexual harassment, he refused to officiate the ceremony, annoying Leo. Sheila, however, offered her services, revealing to Leo that she was ordained online and had previous experience with the Kiriakis family. Back at the mansion, Sonny & Adrienne were joined by his father Justin, and Sonny showed them the photos that Leo had of Will & Sonny disposing of Leo's body after they thought he was dead. Leo then arrived, drawing the ire of Sonny's parents.
Will confessed the entire story to Marlena, telling her about Leo's accident at the mansion and how he and Sonny covered it up, thinking Leo was dead. Now, they are at Leo's mercy. After hearing the whole story, Marlena assured him that there had to be a way to fix this. They were becoming victims of Leo all over again. Back at the Kiriakis mansion, Adrienne grew more angry when Sheila arrived and Leo revealed that the trouble-maker would be handling the ceremony. At the hospital, Marlena urged Will to embrace the truth of what happened. Will began to feel more empowered and wondered if he should go over to Sonny's house and put an end to Leo's blackmail, but he worried about his daughter's future if he and Sonny were to be sentenced to prison.
With his plans in motion, Leo revealed his wedding suit to Sheila and began the ceremony. Sonny's parents wondered if he was sure about going through with this. He told them that he had no choice at this point. They promised to remain by his side for support. Leo again tried to make nice, only enraging Adrienne even more. The ceremony got underway, only for it to be interrupted by an unplanned guest.
Episode 54x57 revealed that the unexpected guest was not Will, but Sonny's overbearing uncle Victor, who was stunned to see Sonny getting married in his living room. As for Will, he showed up at his family's pub, where he ran into his uncle Eric with Victor's stepdaughter Sarah. They were curious about how things were going for Will, and he was unable to hold back his sadness over Sonny's ordeal. Back at the mansion, Leo introduced himself. Victor was even more shocked, wondering why they all would be letting the con artist into their lives again.
Will took his mind off Sonny when he realized Eric was looking for a place to stay that would be big enough for him and Holly, the daughter of his deceased love Nicole. Will offered up the apartment he secured with Paul, knowing it would be too much space for him with Paul gone. Back at the mansion, Leo eavesdropped as Sonny revealed Leo's blackmail plot to Victor. He urged his nephew to get better at covering his tracks and allowed the ceremony to continue in order to avoid another scandal that could hurt the family business. Back at the pub, Eric & Sarah wished Will luck with Sonny, though he was still left feeling powerless to stop the wedding.
As Sheila fumbled her way through the ceremony, Sonny thought back to his wedding to Will which occurred in the very same room. He went through with the vows and Leo forced a kiss, bringing the ceremony to an end. Leo welcomed himself into the Kiriakis family, though they all made sure he understood that he was never going to be considered a part of their family, given his antics.
Will imbibed at the pub, taking advantage of the available alcohol, as he remembered his recent reunion with Sonny. Back at the mansion, Leo excused himself to go find some alcohol of his own and Sonny used the opportunity to plan his escape to go see Will. Victor refused to allow that, telling Sonny that he made his decision to put on this charade with Leo and now he had to own it. He told him that he could not allow anyone outside the family to know this was a ruse, or risk another scandal. Back at the pub, Sheila came looking for a drink and crossed paths with Will, who soon realized that the dramatic wedding she was complaining about was Sonny's. He was left disappointed, realizing that Sonny was officially married to Leo.
Episode 54x60 began with Sonny dropped into even more drama under his roof, as he and his best friend Chad came upon the body of Julie Williams, who had fallen down the stairs inside the mansion. They spotted Gabi, the mother of Sonny & Will's daughter, at the top of the stairs and wondered what happened. Sonny called for an ambulance as Gabi concocted a story to cover-up the tussle that had occurred at the top of the stairs, leading to Julie's fall. Meanwhile, a drunken Will showed up at his grandmother Kate's place, telling her about Sonny's wedding and how the Leo mess was her fault. Kate apologized again for allowing Leo into their lives but she tried to empower Will to make the best of things with Sonny by continuing their relationship in secret.
Taking Kate's advice, Will went to see Sonny at home. Sonny told him about his day and how horrible it's been with the wedding and Julie's fall. Will tried to comfort him, reminding him that they were in this together. This led to a kiss, which Sonny was forced to break. He told Will that they couldn't carry on their relationship because someone might see them, which would lead to even more trouble with Leo.
Will grew upset and tried to convince Sonny to have an affair with him, so they wouldn't have to be apart completely, but Sonny refused, worried that it could all backfire. Will got more upset at knowing they were being forced apart again, just when they were hoping to enjoy Christmas together as a family. Sonny reminded him that he still loved him, and only him. They shared a final kiss under the mistletoe, before Will left disappointed and Sonny was left on the verge of tears.
Episode 54x61 opened with Sonny having a pleasant dream about his reunion with Will, only to wake up to find Leo had invaded his bedroom, attempting to sleep with him, which he refused. Meanwhile, Will got a visit from his uncle Eric, who told him about things falling through with Holly's custody, meaning he didn't need the apartment. Back at the mansion, Leo tried to work his way into Sonny's good graces, and his bed. Sonny told him that he would never have sex with him, leaving Leo annoyed.
Will tried to convince Eric not to give up on his hopes of raising Holly, which was Nicole's last wish. He relayed to Eric how much of a connection he felt to his daughter Arianna when she was first born. Eric ultimately decided to take the apartment. He also wondered how Will was doing with the Sonny issues. Will revealed he was still broken-up and unsure of what he could do to make things right, even if Sonny wasn't sleeping with Leo. They still couldn't be together. Meanwhile, Sonny looked to have some bonding time with his & Will’s daughter Arianna and her mom Gabi, to help settle Gabi's nightmares. Leo invited himself to join, but Sonny refused. Leo agreed to leave, but only if he did so with Sonny's credit card. Sonny gave him the card so he could have some peace.
Leo enjoyed his shopping excursion in the town square, where he crossed paths with Will. He attempted to make him jealous by showing off some skimpy undies he claimed to have bought for Sonny. Back at the mansion, Sonny & Gabi discussed Ari's Christmas list. Back in the square, Will grew more annoyed and angry with Leo as he claimed to have worked his way into Sonny's bed on their wedding night. Leo pushed too far, leading Will to punch him. Experiencing Will's public fury, Leo threatened to call the police on Will.
Will remained unmoved by Leo's threats and when he grabbed him forcefully again, Sonny arrived in time to calm him down. When Leo brought up the idea of pressing charges, Sonny warned him not to do it, given that he provoked Will. Leo said he would forget the incident, if Will kept his distance. Sonny told Will that he had to stay away from them, for his own good. Leo pulled Sonny away and he shared a sad parting glance with Will before leaving him behind.
