GayTV Recap: Days of Our Lives (Episodes 54x42-48)
The gays of Days of Our Lives got major screentime recently, thanks to some major developments in their storylines. Episode 54x42 began with Will (played by Chandler Massey) happy to hear that his grandmother Marlena was being released from the hospital. He then told her and her husband John about his break-up with Paul and reunion with Sonny (played by Freddie Smith). Meanwhile, Paul (played by Christopher Sean) met with his brother Brady and revealed his plans to leave Salem, surprising him.
Will figured John would hate him for breaking Paul's heart, but Marlena explained to him that John was just feeling hurt for his son. She applauded Will for telling Paul the truth. John arrived at Paul's apartment, looking to support him. Brady hoped their father would help him convince Paul not to leave town. John was not happy to hear Paul's news, but he told them both about a treatment program in California that might help him walk again.
Will filled Marlena in on Sonny's departure from Salem and how he didn't know when or if he was planning to come back. He revealed that Sonny's uncle Victor was refusing to say where Sonny went. Marlena urged him to have hope that Sonny would be back soon. Meanwhile, Paul showed John & Brady information on the treatment program, leading John to agree to support his decision to leave. John & Brady were caught off-guard when Paul revealed he was leaving today. His escort, Luke (played by Chido Nwokocha) arrived, revealing he was a fan of Paul's baseball days.
Will's hopes were raised when he got a call from Sonny's mother Adrienne, though she was only updating him that she had no luck getting Victor to cooperate with their search for Sonny. Meanwhile, Paul was surprised to learn that not only was Luke a fan of his previous sports career, but also admired Paul for his coming out, which inspired Luke to do the same. Learning Paul's new physical therapist was gay set Brady into a match-making mood, probing Luke with more personal questions, as John & Paul shared an emotional goodbye.
Episode 54x43 found the Salem residents celebrating Thanksgiving. Will showed up at Sonny's place to wish his family a happy holiday, only to be rebuked by a surly Victor for intruding on their family. Sonny's parents Adrienne & Justin shared their anger with Victor for his attitude and dismissal of their desire to find Sonny. Victor continued to refuse their request. Feeling unwanted, Will made a hasty exit. He spoke to his mother Sami on the phone, telling her about Sonny's absence. Later he ran into Adrienne & Justin dining in the square, having abandoned Victor for his actions. They invited Will to join them, feeling he was a part of their family.
Unbeknownst to them, a choking incident back at the house caused Victor to have a change of heart. He sent for Sonny, who arrived back in Salem and surprised Will just as he was leaving him another phone message.
In Episode 54x44, Will explained to Sonny what happened with Paul, including him finding out the truth about their love and his decision to leave town. While Sonny felt bad for Paul, he was happy to hear about his plans to get back on his feet in California. Sonny and Will then shared a true romantic reunion of kissing in the park.
Declaring Thanksgiving their new favorite holiday, they went back to Sonny's place looking to finally get their love life back on track. But before they could get to Sonny's bedroom, the doorbell rang. Sonny looked to get rid of whoever was at the door. He opened it and was left shocked to find his former fling, and blackmailer, Leo (played by Greg Rikaart), apparently back from the dead.
Things picked up again in Episode 54x45 with Leo revealing to the stunned couple that they weren't seeing a ghost. He didn't die like they thought he did when they disposed of his body. He shared with them his journey to recuperate from his head injury inflicted by Sonny and how he has been watching them and their relationship drama play out with Paul this entire time, waiting for the perfect time to reveal himself.
Sonny & Will immediately wondered what he was up to and Leo revealed that he came to collect on his agreement with Sonny to get married. Sonny was disgusted, saying that Leo's fake lawsuit was thrown out and he has no proof that what happened with him wasn't just an accident. Will called out Leo for just looking to get access to Sonny's money. Leo demanded Sonny marry him, or he would tell the police about their attempt to kill him.
In Episode 54x46, Leo laid out his plan to marry Sonny, including a fabricated story about how they would play it off to everyone in town, but Sonny refused, professing his love for Will, which everyone knows about. Leo said that he would never have a future with Will, because Sonny would either marry him, or face a judge for trying to kill him.
Despite Will & Sonny's contempt and assurances that no one would believe Leo's lies, given his life as a con artist was already exposed, Leo told them that he would do everything in his power to ensure their lives were ruined if they didn't agree. He invited himself to stay in the mansion and left them to think about his proposition. Sonny showed his true panic to Will, wondering how they would get through this. Will promised him that they would figure it out, noting that they didn't work their way back to each other to let Leo tear them apart.
Episode 54x47 opened with Will headed to see his grandmother, Kate, hoping that she might be able to help them find Leo's lawyer Ted, whom they assumed had helped Leo with his disappearance. Sonny stayed home where Leo continued to taunt him. Will bypassed his grandpa Roman and got Kate alone, telling her about Leo's seeming return from the dead. Sonny continued to remind Leo that what happened to him was just an accident and that he had no proof of anything else.
Leo's taunting got to Sonny and this lead him to get physical, pushing Leo up against a wall. Leo wondered if Sonny was going to try to kill him again. This got Sonny to compose himself. Meanwhile, Kate shot down Will's attempts to get her assistance, revealing that she had no idea where Ted was. Will was disappointed but said that he and Sonny would figure it out. He returned to the mansion, filling Sonny in on his visit with Kate, as Leo returned, hearing them. Leo then dropped the bombshell that Kate was the mastermind behind his lawsuit against Sonny in the first place.
Episode 54x48 found Sonny and Will questioning Leo's claims that Kate planned for Leo to seduce Sonny and sue him for sexual harassment. Leo explained to them how she was trying to bring down Titan, the company owned by Sonny's family.

Leo then told them that Kate tried to stop Leo's suit by getting him to accept Sonny's first money offer, which led Leo to try to marry him the last time. He revealed that Kate lost interest in bringing down Titan when her brother-in-law Chad, Sonny's best friend, took over in Sonny's place. While Will still didn't believe, Sonny thought the story was starting to make sense. This led them to decide to confront Kate and Chad to see if Leo's story was true. Leo, meanwhile, put a deadline on his ultimatum to Sonny, giving him 24 hours to agree to marry him, or risk prison time.
