GayTV Recap: A Million Little Things (Episode 4x13)
Episode 13 of the fourth season of the ABC family drama A Million Little Things picked up where the previous episode left off as young Danny (played by Chance Hurstfield) returned from Paris, hoping to get his long-distance romance with his boyfriend Milo back on track. This week's episode began with Danny's surrogate uncle Gary and his love Maggie having breakfast, as they overheard Danny arguing on the phone with his mother about his travel back to America without her permission. Gary (played by James Roday Rodriguez) verbally gave him words of encouragement while Danny tried to reason with his furious mother.
However, when Danny stepped into the next room, Gary revealed to Maggie that he was hoping Danny would be in enough trouble that he would have to get back to France immediately, and not bother trying to go after the cheating Milo. Maggie reminded him that this was Danny's first love. It's hard to let go. Gary was sure that Milo wasn't worth it. He hid his feelings again as Danny walked back in, explaining to his mother how important it was for him to see Milo. Gary assured him that he was doing well in his chat, secretly figuring it wasn't going well.
Danny stepped away again, and Gary was sure he was also going to be in trouble with Danny's mother Delilah, but things were going just as they should. He told Maggie that Milo didn't deserve Danny after what he did. Danny emerged and joined them at the table, telling them that his mother's never been this angry with him before. Gary wondered if he needed a ride to the airport, but Danny told him that, after getting over her initial anger, his mother agreed to let him stay for Spring Break to see if he could fix things with Milo, leaving Gary unhappy and hiding his feelings on the situation, as he locked eyes with Maggie.
Later, Danny came to Gary, seeking his advice on what to do to get Milo back. Gary suggested that they hang out together instead and then he could just forget about Milo, calling him a jerk. Danny said he couldn't just forget about him. That wasn't going to make him feel better. When Danny suggested he make a grand gesture, Gary tried to steer him away from that. He told Danny that if he really wanted to deal with the situation, he should make Milo insanely jealous of the thing that he can no longer have, which is Danny.
Gary suggested Danny go over to Milo's house and dump him for cheating, while making sure that he looks the best he's ever looked before so he could show him that he's over it and not feeling bad in any way. Danny wondered if that would really help him feel better. Gary said there was only one way to find out. He broke out the ironing board though Danny quickly realized Gary didn't know how to set it up. Danny decided to take his advice.
Later, Gary returned home with food, remarking to his dog about the perfect post-breakup meal which he intended to make for Danny. It was then that he heard noise coming from the living room. He called out, only for Danny's head to pop up from the couch. Gary was surprised he was back so soon. He wondered if Danny was okay. He nodded his head. Then, Milo's head popped up, revealing he had been lying on the couch with him. Gary was taken aback seeing Milo there, as Danny revealed that they actually got back together.
Gary prepared his waffle burger treat for both the boys, stretching the food as Milo (played by Emrik Lopez) questioned using a waffle as a bun, annoying Gary. He then mentioned needed to clean his hands, as Danny mentioned to Gary that Milo was actually allergic to dogs. Gary told him there were tissues in the bathroom and Milo exited. Gary then wondered what happened to the plan they discussed. Danny told him that Milo told him that he loved him and he begged him to take him back. Gary wasn't surprised, reminding Danny that he is a catch, but he told him that he shouldn't let Milo off the hook.
Danny told Gary that he didn't understand what it was like for them being apart for six whole months. Gary then said that Danny still couldn't trust Milo after what he did. Danny admitted that he didn't, but they were working on getting trust back by spending time together. He told Gary that he knows what Milo did, but he apologized and Danny is letting it go. Gary said that Danny was setting himself up for more heartbreak. Milo walked back in and Gary went quiet. Milo then told Danny that he was going to go because his allergies were really getting bad. Danny was disappointed, but Gary looked relieved. He then flippantly remarked that he always figured Milo was a cat person, drawing an annoyed look from Danny.
Later, Danny was seen texting Milo and getting no response, worrying him. From the other room, Gary called out, asking if he had heard from the cat lover yet. It was then that Danny did get a response back from Milo, causing him to get angry. He stormed into the room where Gary was, telling him that Milo heard everything that Gary said about him while he was in the bathroom. He said that it was all messed up now and it was Gary's fault. Gary said that he obviously didn't mean for Milo to hear what he said, but perhaps he had done Danny a favor. He told Danny that he could do so much better than Milo.
This made Danny even more angry, as he questioned Gary's opinion on that, saying he has no idea what it's like for Danny. He asked Gary how many gay kids he knows in Boston. On the verge of tears, Danny said he was sure Gary knew of two, which was the same number that Danny knew and he didn't know any in Paris. Referencing Gary's own past, Danny said that he of all people should know all about making mistakes and that it doesn't mean that someone isn't worthy of a second chance. Before Gary could respond, Danny stormed out, as Gary called out to him, telling him that they could fix this.
Later, Gary went over to Delilah's house, figuring Danny would go home. Gary found Danny in his bedroom, eating uncooked ramen. Gary wondered if he was feeling better or worse, given his current state. Danny told him that he feels like his life is falling apart and all he wants to do is fix it, but when he tries, he feels like everyone just yells at him. He told Gary he can't do it anymore. He said none of this should have ever happened. Gary agreed and he apologized for what Milo overheard. Danny then told him that wasn't what he was talking about. He told Gary that he should have never went to France.
Danny told Gary that he just up and abandoned his life there to go to France because that's what his mom needed. He was trying to be a good son and put her first but everything's gotten so messed up. Gary said that Danny hasn't gotten to be the kid he deserves to be. Danny said that he knows how Gary feels about Milo, but he believes him when he says that he was just lonely because it's the same way he's been feeling. Gary apologized again for being pushy and unhelpful with Danny's feelings. He said that he was there for Danny and listening to what he wants.
Danny said he needed Gary to forgive Milo too. He told Gary that he couldn't get back to trusting him, without Gary backing him up, instead of feeling like he has to choose between them. Gary told Danny that he never had to choose when it comes to Gary, because he's never going anywhere, no matter what. He said that Danny was stuck with him and their relationship was stronger than anything, even his weird uncooked ramen. This led to Danny being able to laugh again.
That night, Gary & Maggie prepared for bed. Gary told her that things didn't go as planned today but Danny still managed to work things out with Milo and they were off seeing a movie together. He told Maggie that he assured Danny he would be supportive, no matter what which meant that he wouldn't badmouth Milo anymore. Maggie said she's sure that meant a lot to Danny. Gary brought up her advice that we have to let people we care about make their own choices and mistakes. He said the thought of Danny being hurt again was excruciating and he wasn't even his own kid. Maggie, however, told him that he was a good dad today.
