25 Days of Gays: There's Something About Mario (2021)
25 Days of Gays is back for September as the blog covers gay films throughout the month beginning with There's Something About Mario. The Brazilian comedy tells the story of Mario, a playwright who partners with his director boyfriend Fernando to produce stage shows starring their trio of friends. When Mario (played by Daniel Rocha) returns home to finally come out to his family, his older brother Vicente shocks him by coming out first, causing their angry father to have a heart attack. Mario is left in the closet and forced to run his family's beer business after Vicente (played by Romulo Arantes Neto) is ostracized. Mario then drunkenly sleeps with his new business associate Ana, just as Fernando (played by Felipe Abib) and the stage troupe arrive to provide support. An angry Fernando then has a drunken tryst of his own with Vicente, unaware of his identity. Mario is ultimately forced to deal with his expanding sexuality, his delayed coming out, repairing his damaged relationships, and saving the family business. Daniel, Felipe & Romulo all showed rear nudity during the film. Victor Maia was shirtless for his role as Kiko, a member of the stage troupe, who finds himself in a bromance with Mario's brother-in-law.
