GayTV Recap: 9-1-1: Lone Star (Episode 1x10)

The season finale of the FOX drama 9-1-1: Lone Star featured some major developments for young firefighter T.K. Strand (played by Ronen Rubinstein). After being accidentally shot while on a call a few weeks back, and being in critical condition, Episode 10 began with him hanging out with his on-again, off-again hookup Carlos (played by Rafael Silva). Policeman Carlos couldn't help but notice that T.K. seemed to be rambling on about random topics in an effort to not discuss their relationship, or if what they have is a relationship at all.

Carlos told him about seeing him in his hospital bed, wondering if T.K. was going to survive and how it caused him to have lots of strong feelings, even if he's not sure what they are. T.K. admitted he didn't know what their relationship was either. After his accident, he's been re-evaluating his entire life, not sure if he's going to ever go back to his job, or if he even knows who he is anymore. He told Carlos he needed to figure himself out before he could figure them out. Carlos told him he was okay with that and he understood. T.K. wasn't sure if he was being honest, but Carlos told him that he made a lot of sense and if they weren't meant to be, then it wasn't meant to be. Carlos assured T.K. that he was fine and it wasn't the end of the world.

At that moment, electronics all around the two began to go haywire, including cars on the street. Carlos and T.K. went to check it out and Carlos had to pull T.K. back from almost being hit by a car. Carlos then noticed the streetlight at the nearby intersection flashing green in both directions. He wondered what was going on. T.K. pulled Carlos back as  a shuttle bus got hit by a truck, sending it toppling over in front of them. The two were both left in shock at the chaos around them, unaware that a solar storm was behind the damage being caused.

The two sprang into action, with Carlos trying to keep onlookers out of the crash zone. T.K. focused on the bus, hearing that the driver was trapped inside. With a fire hydrant being knocked over by the bus crash, water was beginning to flow into the bus. He checked on the driver, Ellen, who told him that her legs were pinned and hurt. T.K. introduced himself and told her that he was going to help. He assessed her condition and she wondered if he was a medical student. He told her he used to be a fireman, which she said was very convenient. He tried to move the metal pinning her, but didn't have the strength.

Smelling gas, T.K. exited the bus and pried off the bumper. He yelled to Carlos to keep the people back because of the gas. He went back inside and used the bumper to help gain more leverage. Ellen noticed his chest was bleeding and told him. T.K. told her about being recently shot, figuring he must have busted some stitches. He told her not to worry about him, as more water came flowing in.

A fire started above them from the gas leak, and T.K. grabbed the bus' fire extinguisher, attempting to put it out, but it was too much. Ellen touched his face, telling him that he did everything he could but it was time for him to go. With Ellen's head falling under the water, T.K. gave-up on trying to free her and instead moved to keep giving her oxygen, putting his own head underwater to do it. He demanded that she keep breathing. He continued to pass on air to her under the water when an arm pulled him away, placing an oxygen mask on him. He was pulled from the bus by his father Captain Strand (played by Rob Lowe) as Ellen received help from the others on the crew.

T.K. told his father that he was okay, as Ellen was pulled from the bus. He went to her side, holding her hand to make sure she was okay. His father told him to get into that ambulance and go to the hospital as well. T.K. turned and thanked him for saving their lives. His father told him that everybody saved everybody. The captain watched him get into the ambulance, as Carlos joined him, telling him that T.K. was an impressive guy. Strand told Carlos that he was just being his son.

Later, Captain Strand and his crew returned to the fire station where T.K. was waiting. Strand was surprised that he was back from the hospital already, but T.K. assured him that they just needed to add some extra stitches but he was good. Strand didn't really believe that given the look on his face. T.K. then called the rest of the crew together, revealing his opiod addiction to them and how his father saved his life after his suicide attempt and made him come to Austin with him.

He told them how he didn't choose to be a firefighter either. But, out there with that woman in the bus, he would have given everything to help her. T.K. told them that he did give her everything he had, but it wasn't enough until they all showed up. He explained to them that he was saying all of this because they were his family. He was choosing them and his life as a firefighter. He told them that this was where he belonged, drawing their support and a group hug as his father watched.

The others went to hit the showers, with Strand telling them that he was proud of all of them. He then asked T.K. if he was sure about all this. It had been a traumatic day with a lot going on for him. He didn't have to make a decision so quickly, but T.K. told him that he had never been more sure of anything in his life. They hugged, as Carlos arrived. Strand saw him and wondered how many big life decisions T.K. was making today. T.K. smiled, telling him he was taking things one step at a time. He walked over to Carlos, giving him a hug and kiss.

The episode ended with the characters all taking in the sight of the sky and the aftereffects of the solar storm. This included T.K. and Carlos who were watching the sky while laying on the hood of Carlos' car together. Carlos wondered what T.K. was thinking in that moment. He told him that he thought they made a pretty good team. Carlos looked over at him, agreeing with that. T.K. smiled and took hold of his hand.

  1. Awww, that's awesome. Glad to hear there's a gay-themed storyline in that show. I don't watch it but, it's like I kinda did, thanks to all of your screenshots! :)
