This week's episode of Grey's Anatomy found the doctors at Grey-Sloan Memorial contending with a busy hospital as a blizzard raged outside. The episode began with intern Levi Schmitt (played by Jake Borelli) in a panicked state as he rushed through the hospital, trying to track down a missing patient. With no luck, he returned to the patient's room and tried to cover for the loss by blocking the doorway as attending doc Jo Karev showed up to see the woman. Given her marriage woes, she was not in the mood to listen to Schmitt's excuses and she demanded he find the patient.
Schmitt returned to his search, leading him to the cafeteria where he spotted his boyfriend Nico (played by Alex Landi). He asked him if he had seen his patient, who he couldn't really describe. Nico encouraged him to get some stress relief after his shift by joining him in an on-call room, given that Nico's surgery got postponed. Schmitt admitted that it sounded good, though he was a bit disappointed that sex seemed to be all they were doing lately. Nico didn't see the problem with that.
Schmitt reminded him that he loves him and they can talk, which is something they haven't really done since Nico revealed to him that Nico was not out to his parents. Nico's mood instantly shifted, not wanting to talk about that. Before their conversation could continue, Dr. Karev arrived, furious to see that Schmitt still hadn't found the patient. She warned him to get back to his search, upset to see him smiling in his relationship. Karev told him that if the patient wasn't in the cafeteria, then Schmitt shouldn't be either, putting an end to the couple's chat.
Schmitt went back on the hunt for the missing patient, rushing past Chief Bailey. She stopped him, wondering what was going on. Schmitt reluctantly revealed to her that he lost a patient. He then clarified that she was misplaced, not deceased. Bailey warned him that if this didn't have a happy ending, then neither would his career. Schmitt understood and rushed off.
Schmitt's search led him to the surgical ward. He went looking in an operating room prep area, finding nothing. He paused in his frustration and when he looked up through the operating room window, he spotted his patient wearing scrubs and about to operate on a patient with Dr. Weber. Schmitt rushed into the room, stopping the surgery, shocking Weber. He revealed that the woman about to cut into Weber's patient was not an intern. She's a patient. The woman rushed off after apologizing and Schmitt followed, refusing to lose her again. He got the young woman back to her room and scolded her for almost hurting another patient. Weber & Karev dismissed Schmitt to order a psych evaluation for the patient.
Later, Schmitt was laying in the on-call room when Nico joined him, looking to snuggle up. He asked if Schmitt found his patient and he told Nico about how the woman got to practice more medicine today than he did, leaving him annoyed given that she could have seriously hurt another patient on his watch. Nico looked to take his mind off things with some kisses. Schmitt reciprocated at first, but then pulled away, saying that Nico was silencing him with sex. He said that Nico might not be ready to talk about his parents, but Schmitt wanted a real relationship and this was starting to feel like an impersonation of one.
This left Nico feeling frustrated. He told Schmitt that he wasn't like him. He doesn't like talking about his feelings. He likes showing up and being together. Nico then told Schmitt that he's supported him and all of his talk about his feelings. He's accepted Schmitt, all of Schmitt, for who he is, but he can't understand why Schmitt can't do the same for him. Nico said he hasn't tried to change Schmitt, but he said Schmitt can't stop trying to change him.
Nico said that this was all he had to give. This was who he was. He said that if that wasn't enough for Levi then he would leave. Nico got up to go, but Schmitt stopped him. He told him that he loves him. He pulled him in for a kiss, saying that he accepts Nico. He begged him not to leave, as they continued to kiss. Their night ended with Nico kissing Schmitt's neck while he looked away, clearly still conflicted.
