GayTV Recap: Grey's Anatomy (Episode 16x6)
Episode 6 of the new season of Grey's Anatomy was the Halloween-themed episode. Grey-Sloan Memorial intern Levi Schmitt (played by Jake Borelli) began the episode getting ready for his shift, while chatting with his fellow intern and friend Taryn about his Halloween plans with his boyfriend Nico. He hoped to finish up work early to meet Nico (played by Alex Landi). He then shared with Taryn that his mother urged him not to post any pictures online because of his other family. He assumed his mother was ashamed that others in his family might find out he's gay. Talk then turned to his costume, as he revealed his Dungeons & Dragons-inspired costume, which only drew teasing from Taryn.
Levi found himself working in pediatrics alongside doctors Avery and DeLuca. He explained the condition of their young patient, who suffered major burns after venturing outside without protective gear due to her skin condition which makes her severely allergic to sunlight. Upset that her surgery would force her to miss Halloween, Avery assured her that the hospital had its own party and trick-or-treating for patients. Levi then revealed to Avery that with Dr. Karev no longer working at the hospital, there was no party planned. Avery then assigned Levi to make it happen for the kids, forcing him to set aside his own plans with Nico.
Levi took on the responsibility of decorating the pediatrics wing for the children's Halloween parade and party. He got a text from Nico wondering about his status for their night together. Levi wrote back to him, hoping to be all finished up within another hour. He was then interrupted by a young patient who asked if he was a doctor. Levi informed him that he was and he wondered if the boy needed help. He told him he needed help to find a costume for the party. Despite knowing it would prolong his time at the hospital, Levi agreed to help.
Levi brought young Ian several costume possibilities, including Superman & Batman, but he learned the boy wasn't interested in superheroes. He presented him with a robot costume, but still got no agreement. He soon gave up, telling Ian that he had no idea what he was looking for. He urged the boy to fill him in. Ian then told him that he really wanted to be a sunflower for Halloween. Levi's heart was touched by the boy's sensitive nature and he agreed to make it happen.
Levi was later seen in one of the hospital labs crafting a sunflower costume for Ian. He later ran into doctors Bailey, Hunt & Altman, letting them know that the party was ready to begin. Levi, Hunt & Bailey were caught off-guard by Altman's attempt at making costumes for her & Hunt's infant children, who were made up to look post-apocalyptic.
Levi was later revealed to have his own homemade sunflower costume as he filmed the pediatrics parade of costumed young patients. He shared a high-five with Ian who was happy with the sunflower look Levi created for him. Levi was joined by Taryn, who was surprised to see he made a costume change. Levi told her that he was feeling more like a sunflower after his day. He was then surprised by the arrival of Nico, who said he couldn't wait to see him any longer. The two posed for pictures in their costumes. Levi then revealed to Taryn that he was posting the photos online, despite his mother's urging because joy should be shared.
