GayTV Recap: Days of Our Lives (Episodes 55x36-55x37)
Episode 55x36 of Days of Our Lives brought many surprises as a one-year time jump was revealed, picking up the characters' stories at various new points in their lives. This included Ben (played by Rob Wilson) who was revealed to be in prison after being convicted of the murder of his sister Jordan. Ben spent the episode recounting the story to his unseen cellmate, revealing how he ended up behind bars for a crime he didn't commit. In his final scene, it was revealed that the listening cellmate was fellow prisoner Will (played by Chandler Massey), who was not very convinced that Ben was innocent.
Episode 55x37 picked up where things left off with Ben continuing to profess his innocence, despite his psychotic past as the town's Necktie Killer, whose victims included his cellmate Will. Ben lamented about being in prison for most of the past year, despite being incapable of murdering his own sister. Will was left intrigued by his adamant tone, but knew that no one believed Ben's story of innocence, which was why he was convicted.
Meanwhile, Will's husband Sonny (played by Freddie Smith) found himself in the park talking with Jordan's love, and Will's former stepfather, Rafe (played by Galen Gering). Rafe wondered how Will & Sonny's daughter Ariana, whose mother is Rafe's sister Gabi, was holding up given all of the drama in their lives in the last year while the girl played in the nearby park. Sonny revealed that it has been very rough on her. Rafe asked about how Sonny was feeling with Will in prison. He confided in him that it was still hard and that he has missed Will every day.
Back in the prison, Ben began to theorize about who might have killed his sister Jordan and framed him and Rafe's name came up, drawing Will's criticism, as he didn't feel that Rafe, a police detective, would kill the mother of his child, David. Ben thought he might want revenge for Jordan poisoning him, but Will reminded Ben that it was an accident as Jordan was trying to target Ben's girlfriend Ciara, which makes him look more guilty. When Will wondered if Ben would start accusing Ciara as well, Ben disputed that, telling Will that he knows Ciara isn't capable of killing anyone. He warned that his suspect list was long, but it didn't include himself. Ben then turned his attention to another suspect, Sonny's uncle Victor, who previously tried to kill Ben and would do anything to keep him away from his granddaughter Ciara.
Back in the park, Sonny & Rafe's commiserating over being single fathers was interrupted by the arrival of their children. Little David's nanny, Evan (played by Brock Kelly) brought the boy over, along with Ariana, whom he had noticed was having some trouble with bullies. Sonny asked Ariana what was going on and she revealed that kids at her school were teasing her about her father Will being in prison, just like her mother Gabi had been, meaning she was going to grow up to become a criminal too. Sonny disputed that, as Rafe agreed, telling her that was not true because of how good a person Ari was growing up to be.
Evan chimed in, assuring Ariana that those boys teasing her were probably just jealous of how good she was doing in school, even being voted as class president. This appeared to make Ariana feel a bit better and it didn't go unnoticed by Sonny. He urged her to go enjoy some time in the park before they had to go, and she rushed off with a smile on her face. Sonny then offered major thanks to Evan for helping Ari feel better. He smiled, saying he was happy to help.
Back in prison, Ben told Will that he wasn't giving up on his freedom. He still had one appeal left and he wasn't going to give up on Ciara either. Will wasn't sure Ben should have any hope left, given his history, but Ben lashed out at Will, saying that he couldn't judge him, given his current situation. He's just as bad as Ben and now he knows what it feels like to be behind bars for killing someone. Will told Ben that there was still a difference between them. Will was taking responsibility for his actions and admitted to what he did, even though what he did hurt a lot of people that he cares about.
At the park, Rafe said his goodbyes, as he prepared to get David home. Evan offered to come by his house later that evening to watch the boy, but Rafe assured him that he had it covered and Evan deserved some time to himself for a change, after all of the time he had been helping Rafe. Evan accepted the compliment on his good work, but reminded Rafe that it was just his job. Rafe wished Sonny luck with everything. Left alone, Evan offered his sympathy for what was going on in Sonny's personal life. Sonny thanked him for the kind words.
Back at the prison, a guard arrived at Will & Ben's cell, announcing that there was a visitor. Assuming it was for him, Will wondered who it was. The guard then revealed that the visitor was there to see Ben, not him. Ben assumed it was his lawyer to discuss his appeal. Seeing the look of disappointment on Will's face, as he hoped it might be Sonny, Ben said it didn't look like Will was doing such a good job of giving up on his outside life after all.
Back at the park, Sonny prepared to grab Ariana and get her home to her mother, but Evan stopped him, offering his services if Sonny ever needed anyone to look after Ariana for him. Evan said he wouldn't mind, and he could use the extra money. Sonny said that he would definitely take him up on his offer. Evan confided in him about not having much free time, given Rafe's work schedule. When he suggested Sonny grab dinner with him this evening, Sonny was flattered, but revealed he had plans with his father. Evan offered for some other time then and Sonny was open to the idea. He then departed.
Later, Sonny found his father Justin waiting for him in the square. Seeing his father in a poor mood, Sonny's own mood dropped, as he realized what was bothering Justin. His father told him that he realized that it had been just a year since he had remarried Sonny's mother Adrienne. Their lives were at such a high point then, only to be shattered a few months later. Sonny's emotions began to get the better of him as well, as talk of their mother forced him to face the fact that she had died within the last year. Back in his jail cell, Will couldn't get his mind off Sonny.
Will held tight to a photo he had of Sonny, as he apologized to him for the crime he had committed. Back in the square, Sonny brought himself to say out loud that he still couldn't believe that his mother was dead, and that his own husband, Will, had killed her. Justin grabbed Sonny into a hug as he broke down over the major revelation for the audience, ensuring lots of drama to come in the weeks ahead as the gaps in the story are filled in.
