GayTV Recap: Schitt's Creek (Episode 5x13)

Episode 13 of the fifth season of Schitt's Creek began with David (played by Daniel Levy) and his sister Alexis being pressured by their mother Moira to fold programs for the upcoming town musical that she's directing. David informed her that he couldn't help because his boyfriend Patrick (played by Noah Reid) made plans for them to have a picnic, upsetting his mother's hope for free labor.

David was looking forward to a nice picnic, only to be surprised when Patrick pulled the car over at the bottom of a hiking trail. He revealed that what he actually had planned was a hike so that they could have their picnic in a special spot he had picked out. David was instantly turned off by the thought of physical activity, but Patrick convinced him to trust him. David reluctantly went along with the plan, despite not being a fan of nature.

The two made their way up the mountainside and David continued to share his annoyance with the atmosphere, and the fact that he was starving. Patrick decided to give up on the whole adventure idea, which caught David off-guard. He told him that he was okay to continue and that he loved the gesture that Patrick was going for, but Patrick decided they should just turn around and go back. When he tried to leave, he stepped on a sharp branch, which pierced his foot. David sprung into action, helping him keep going up the mountain.

The two found a spot where Patrick could sit down and David tended to his injured foot, wondering where the first aid supplies were in their bags. Patrick then revealed that he had forgot to pack anything like that. David surprised him when he pulled out his hand sanitizer, revealing to Patrick that it could work as a disinfectant to clean up his wounded foot. Patrick told him that his plans were falling apart and he was fine going home now, but David refused to let him give up. He pushed him to keep going since he could still walk, as David was looking forward to a food-filled payoff to the trip.

David got Patrick to the special spot, carrying Patrick on his back to get him there. David was taken aback by the great view. Patrick told him that he wouldn't have brought him all that way if he didn't think he would enjoy it. David soon changed the subject to food, as his appetite was raging. Patrick suggested they pass on the picnic and head back soon, but David refused. He told Patrick that he wanted his reward for finishing their hike.

David offered to set everything up so Patrick could stay off his foot and Patrick reluctantly agreed, directing him to where the blanket was. He then told him where he could find the food, only for David to also notice a bottle of champagne, surprising him. Patrick then directed him to a pocket in his backpack to grab what was there. With David's back turned, Patrick got himself down on one knee. David pulled out a jewelry box and turned to see Patrick on one knee, surprising him again, as he began to realize what Patrick had planned.

Patrick told him about the hikes he would take to this spot when he first started having feelings for David, and how he would look out on this view, wondering if David would return those feelings. He called David the love of his life. That's why he wanted to finally show this place to him, because it would be the perfect place to ask him to marry him. David wondered if he was sure about this, and Patrick said it was the easiest decision of his life. David accepted his proposal with a kiss and a hug, ending their trip on a happy note.
