GayTV Recap: Dynasty (Episode 2x14)
Episode 14 of Dynasty's second season began with leading lady Fallon getting a phone call from her MIA brother Steven (played by James Mackay) in Paris. He revealed to her that his jacket had been stolen, along with his identification and passport. While he hoped she would verify his identity to the Embassy so he could get a new passport, Fallon had other plans. She went to his husband Sam (played by Rafael de la Fuente), sharing her suspicion that Steven may be on a drunken bender. She enacted a plan to go find him in Paris, with Sam agreeing to go as well.
Sam & Fallon arrived in Paris, where Fallon allowed Sam to take in a few of the sites on their way to meet Steven, including a pass by the Eiffel Tower. Fallon showed off her fluency in French, leaving Sam confused. They found Steven staying in a Carrington flat and Steven was surprised to see their arrival. He greeted them warmly.
Fallon & Sam wondered how he ended up in Paris and Steven told them how he ended up in bad shape in Paraguay, and was helped back to health by a British man he met there, named George (played by Sam Underwood). Sam was instantly jealous and worried about the nature of this relationship, but Steven swore that it was platonic and coming to Paris with George helped Steven's recovery. Skeptical about George's intentions, Sam & Fallon demanded a meeting and Steven made plans to meet them for dinner.
Fallon & Sam took a walk along the Seine, as Fallon explained Steven's drinking history and how Sam was finally witnessing one of Steven's spirals and his attempts to run away from things. They waited for Steven at the restaurant, only for him to arrive without George. Fallon again shared her suspicions about George being a grifter, hiding from the family. They questioned him about George's identity, leading to Steven doing more drinking and leaving frustrated that his sister didn't trust his instincts about people.
Determined to get more information about George, Fallon took Sam to meet her cousin Juliette, who revealed that Steven hadn't contacted her, despite being in town for weeks. She promised to pull some strings with her powerful father to get the info on George Emerson. Sam began to wonder if Steven might be telling the truth about George, but Fallon wasn't ready to believe him without knowing more.
Back at the Carrington flat, George arrived to find Steven smoking and drinking. Steven confronted him about missing dinner and being gone all night, but George claimed Steven told him the wrong restaurant and he had friends in town, which he had mentioned to Steven before, though he didn't remember. Sam arrived and Steven looked to introduce him to George, only for him to disappear. Steven wondered where he went, as Sam discovered Steven's "missing" passport. He questioned whether Steven lied about being mugged and losing his passport so he wouldn't have to come home, but Steven swore to him that he wanted to return to him though he couldn't explain his reappeared passport.
With Juliette hosting a party, they all planned to attend, though Fallon was caught off-guard when Sam arrived alone. He told her that Steven was picking up George to bring him. He also told her about finding Steven's passport. Fallon wondered why Steven would lie about being mugged. Sam wondered if he was having an identity crisis over his paternity, and perhaps was imagining George. Fallon refused to believe her brother would do that, despite Juliette's revelation that her search for George Emerson found nothing, except a fictional character from Steven's favorite book. Fallon & Sam grew more concerned when Steven arrived, alone.
After talking with Steven, Sam relayed to Fallon & Juliette that Steven claimed he and George got into an argument on the way to the party. With Steven looking for a drink, Sam brought him soda water instead, upsetting him. Sam urged Steven to let him in, but Steven lashed out, saying he asked for time, but Sam & Fallon couldn't give him that and instead showed up in Paris looking to drag him home like a child. Sam told him how worried they are, with Steven's drinking and smoking. He brought up his theory that George wasn't real, leading Steven to lash out. He told Sam that he hooked up with George, but doesn't remember it, upsetting Sam even more. He told Steven that he couldn't chase him around the world and that he was done. Steven stormed out.
A woozy Steven made it back to the Carrington flat, where he saw a silhouette of George through blurred vision. He turned on the lights but no longer saw the man, as Fallon & Sam arrived, seeing a noose hanging above a chair in the room with Steven. The two went directly into panic mode, trying to calm Steven down, believing he was about to kill himself. Steven told them that he wouldn't do that. He began to have a breakdown, as he swore he saw George.
Steven called George's cellphone, only to get a message that the number was disconnected. This sent him into more of an emotional spiral, as Sam took the phone and heard the message. Steven grew so confused that he didn't understand what was happening, or whether George was real. Sam took back what he said in their fight earlier, vowing to help Steven. Fallon joined them, promising they would get Steven help, as he agreed to take it.
With Steven checked into a Paris hospital, Fallon brought up the idea of getting him into a hospital back in Atlanta, but Steven told her that he couldn't go back home and deal with that life again, as a teary Sam listened. Fallon left the husbands alone after sharing a goodbye with Steven. He told Sam that he deserved love. Steven told Sam that he doesn't know who he is anymore, running from pressure and expectations. He said that the man Sam married doesn't really exist. He needed a way out and he asked Sam to give him one.
On the jet back to Atlanta, Sam told Fallon about his decision to move on from Steven. She begged him not to leave the rest of the family behind, telling him that she couldn't lose another brother. Back in Paris, Steven got another visit from George. Steven tried to convince himself that he wasn't real, and George revealed that he was right. He wasn't George Emerson. He revealed that their hookup was a story that he told Steven while he was high. It never happened. He explained to Steven how he set him up after learning of Fallon & Sam's arrival in Paris, including drugging him now. He revealed that he used Steven to learn more about his life as a Carrington before orchestrating his breakdown. He resented everything Steven walked away from, but he was ready to claim it for himself. He revealed he was Adam Carrington, the long-lost son of Blake & Alexis, leaving a drugged Steven stunned.
