GayTV Recap: Schitt's Creek (Episode 5x5)
The comedy Schitt's Creek centers on the formerly-wealthy, self-centered and eccentric Rose family, as they continue to deal with small town life after losing everything. This week's episode, appropriately titled "Housewarming," began with David Rose (played by Daniel Levy) telling his family about his down-to-earth boyfriend Patrick's housewarming party, which he refused to let David help plan. He revealed to his sister Alexis that he's perfectly content to watch Patrick (played by Noah Reid) fail at hosting on his own.
David did just that, as he went to Patrick's and quickly began to critique his party shots and his high school slumber party theme. After hearing David's outlandish and elaborate theme idea, Patrick assured him that the party would be fun by doing it his way. He forced David to try his jello shots, which David turned out to really like, encouraging him to make more.
The party got underway with David feeling bored with the childish party games, including Never-Have-I-Ever, which gave his sister the opportunity to force him to drink by bringing up all of the strange things he's done. Things got more interesting when Alexis' boyfriend Ted arrived, surprising her with his decision to cut loose for a change. He stripped off his robe, revealing his boxers and a tank top, getting David's attention.
The party picked up with a game of Spin the Bottle, which had David feeling more annoyed as his sister was sitting next to Patrick, making things uncomfortable for him. A drunken Ted was all-in on playing and after Alexis spun and kissed him, he spun the bottle which landed on David. Ted went in, grabbing David into a kiss, which instantly upset both Alexis and Patrick, who left the game, while David was playfully pleased with the outcome.
David soon noticed his boyfriend and his sister standing alone as the party continued with a game of Twister. He teased them for being like he was in high school, left out of the fun, watching all of the cool kids, which he declared himself to be now. He wondered what was going on with them and got them to admit that they were mad that he kissed Ted. He reminded them that it was drunk Ted that kissed him, actually. Seeing they wouldn't let it go, he suggested they kiss each other to make things even. Patrick was not into the idea, but Alexis quickly agreed. When Ted suggested joining a game of Truth or Dare, she quickly forced him to leave with her.
With the festivities over, David helped Patrick with the clean-up, teasing him about taking out the trash on his way to meet Ted to run away together. He finally got Patrick to admit that he didn't like seeing him kiss another guy.
David took this as a victory in their relationship, hearing Patrick admit to some jealousy, though he quickly got confused wondering if he was jealous of Ted or actually jealous of David for kissing Ted. When he said it was both, David got a bit annoyed, but the two shared a kiss, showing they were all good.
