GayTV Recap: Days of Our Lives (Episode 54x65)
The Christmas episode of Days of Our Lives put some focus on the show's gays. Airing on December 25th, the episode found various residents of Salem celebrating the holiday. After dinner with his family, Will (played by Chandler Massey) helped his grandpa Roman and aunt Kayla with clean-up and Roman brought up Will's lack of Christmas cheer. He confided in him that he wasn't feeling very much in the spirit being without Sonny (played by Freddie Smith). Meanwhile, over at Sonny's place, he prepared to enjoy Christmas with his best friend Chad and their kids, only for the children to be upset after his trouble-making husband Leo (played by Greg Rikaart) revealed that Santa wasn't real. Sonny warned Leo to stay away from his daughter Arianna, or risk Sonny's wrath.
Leo tried to make the holiday all about him, and when he learned that Sonny & Chad were planning on going to the hospital so that Sonny could make the Kiriakis family's annual donation for the ill children stuck there for Christmas, Leo invited himself to join the party, knowing that the media would be covering it. At the hospital, Will & Kayla helped prepare Roman for his role as Santa. Will's spirits dropped when he saw Sonny arrive with Leo. He put on a happy face as Chad & Arianna's mom Gabi arrived with the kids. Will was happy to see his daughter and his friends as he was forced to keep his distance from Sonny.
Seizing the opportunity to put the media spotlight on himself, Leo dragged Sonny into his interruption of the Christmas reading, where he reminded everyone of the Kiriakis family's major donations to the hospital, making Sonny feel uncomfortable. Will watched from afar, annoyed as well. As the reading continued, Will and Sonny's eyes met from across the room, as they silently shared their disappointment with their current predicament.
Sonny later blasted Leo for acting like an advocate for his family. Leo reminded him that he was now a part of the Kiriakis family and he wouldn't be quiet about it. The duo had a run-in with their wedding officiate Sheila, who checked in on the couple. Sonny put on a fake smile, implying that things were going well. Leo took things a step further, planting a public kiss on him, which was seen by Will. Sensing how hard this was on Will, his grandpa Roman came up with an idea to make things better.
Fed up being around the children, Leo was ready to leave. Sonny obliged, only for the duo to be intercepted by Kayla, who pulled Sonny away at the request of Roman. Sonny went to see Roman, only to discover that it was Will behind the Santa Claus costume. The two shared a happy private moment, capped with a kiss.
Sonny revealed that the kiss fulfilled his Christmas wish and Will agreed that it was all he wanted as well. They shared another kiss, before they were ultimately interrupted by Leo, breaking their moment of bliss. Leo never noticed Will was the one dressed as Santa, as he whined, pressing Sonny to leave the dreary hospital. Sonny & Will shared a happy goodbye, before going their separate ways again.
