GayTV Recap: How to Get Away With Murder (Episode 5x6)

The latest episode of the legal drama How to Get Away With Murder featured some major screentime for Oliver (played by Conrad Ricamora) and his fiancé Connor (played by Jack Falahee). The guys welcomed their mothers to town as preparations for their wedding kicked into high gear. They were both quickly overwhelmed by their opinions on the wedding, especially Oliver's mother, who felt a church wedding would be best. Her push for a bigger event, got Oliver agreeing, despite his & Connor's previous agreement to have something small.

Things grew even more uncomfortable for the guys as they discovered their best man Asher invited Connor's mother to their big joint bachelor party, which she promptly invited Oliver's mother to as well. When Oliver's mother suggested she and Connor's mother provide more money for the wedding, Connor was faced with his mother's discomfort with the amount, revealing she couldn't provide it, though she figured his father could. Connor refused the suggestion that he get his father involved. Oliver overheard their conversation just as Connor told his mother that Oliver was siding with his mother, only because he was scared of disappointing her, not because a big wedding was what he wanted.

Oliver & Connor spoke alone about Oliver's relationship with his mother and how his feelings of not wanting to disappoint her were stemming from the secret he's been keeping from her. Connor urged him to tell her so that the barrier he's been refusing to break could go away. While trying on suits, Oliver took his advice and revealed to his mother that he is HIV-positive. He apologized for disappointing her after her warnings for him to be careful. She immediately professed her never-ending love and her sadness that he felt he couldn't tell her.

Oliver's mother then turned her focus to Connor. She showed him a wedding scrapbook that Oliver created when he was a young boy, showing Connor that her suggestions for a large wedding were due to knowing it's what Oliver really wants. Connor was surprised to learn of Oliver sacrificing his dream. During their bachelor party, Connor made a call to his father, looking to make Oliver's dreams of a big wedding come true.
