GayTV Recap: Dynasty (Episode 2x4)

Last week's episode of Dynasty found the Carringtons in grave turmoil after the revelation that Steven (played by James Mackay) was the product of an affair between his mother Alexis and the family's longtime butler Anders. His hubby Sam (played by Rafael de la Fuente) reminded him that it was okay to be furious at his mother, but Steven was looking for peace. Steven assured Blake that he still considered him his father. He was glad to hear the feeling was mutual, just as Anders showed up.

Steven met with his birth father and the two discussed his childhood, where he always felt like Anders was a second father to him. Steven made it clear that he now considers himself to have two fathers. Meanwhile, Sam spent time with Blake, who filled him in on how betrayed he felt by Anders, one of the people he trusted most in the world, sleeping with his then-wife.

Given all the turmoil, Steven looked to clear his head by focusing on his charity. His sister Fallon arrived to find Sam posing for photos and Steven revealed that he and Sam were planning a lengthy trip to Paraguay. Despite Sam's aversion to roughing it, he gladly agreed to it, while Fallon set out to get Steven to stay with some emotional blackmail, in the form of a written pact from their childhood, which Steven quickly realized was fake.

Just as Steven & Sam began to settle in Paraguay, Fallon arrived with Alexis, Blake & Anders, looking to show her brother that the family could come together and all be there for him by helping his charitable efforts to build homes for the needy. Steven doubted it would be possible for any of them to manage being away from their lives of luxury.

He was soon proven right, as he & Fallon discovered a tent packed with food and comforts, seemingly purchased by Alexis with Steven's credit card. While she denied the purchases, Steven lashed out at Fallon, knowing what a bad idea this was. An angry Fallon demanded her family suck it up and work this out together, for the sake of Steven's sanity, and their family.

Fallon vowed to build the house herself if she had to, but the others followed Steven's lead, helping her put up a wall, only for it to soon fall apart. Steven thanked her for her efforts, but agreed that they should all return home. Seeing how unhappy Steven was about going back, Fallon ultimately showed her support for him to return to Paraguay.

Steven revealed to Sam that he was going to go back to Paraguay, but that he wasn't going to take Sam with him. Though Sam promised he could handle a trimmed-down lifestyle by Steven's side, he told his husband that it wasn't fair to drag him away from the life he loves. Steven promised to be back by Christmas so they could really start their future together, after he's figured himself out. The two shared a passionate kiss. The episode would turn out to be James Mackay's final as a cast member.
