GayTV Recap: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Episode 4x5)

Episode 5 of the CW musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's final season put some focus on the "crazy" ex-boyfriends, Darryl (played by Pete Gardner) and Joshua (played by David Hull). The episode revealed that the two have been spending lots of their free time hanging out together, despite having broken up. Josh wondered if it might be weird, but Darryl quickly dismissed it, given that both of them know they are just friends.

A trip to the park with Darryl's infant daughter led them to cross paths with Darryl's colleagues, who assumed the two were back together. They told all of them that they were not getting back together, and are just friends.

This led them to become the subject of a musical number, as their friends attempted to use music to prove to them that they were meant to be a couple. Darryl & Josh weren't having it, but found the only way to get rid of their music was to give-in to their wishes for a kiss.

Back in the park, they packed up and Josh revealed to Darryl that he's become interested in one of the trainers at his gym, Vic (played by Fernando Rivera). Darryl sang Vic's praises for his work at the gym and thought the two would have a lot in common. Josh & Vic went on a date, where they ran into another of his friends, Heather, forcing Josh to explain his connection to her, which led to talk of his other wacky friends. Though Vic showed interest in learning more, Josh wondered if it was too much sharing.

Josh went back to Darryl's house, filling him in on the date. When Josh revealed he ended things early so he could hang out with Darryl, things reached a breaking point for Darryl. He threw water on Josh and demanded that he stop spending so much time with him. He did his best to convince Josh that he was putting his romantic life on hold due to how comfortable he felt being around Darryl. He made him realize that their post-breakup closeness wasn't good for either of them.

Josh arrived at Heather's party with Vic, who sought out Darryl, thanking him for convincing Josh to take a chance on a potential new romance. Darryl realized he and Vic shared a love for the same television show, leading them to hit it off as well. The show's closing musical montage showed Darryl alone with his television, while Josh & Vic enjoyed another date.
